Motion

Scroll

What may move as you scroll: panels arrive once, blocks build, one big word flexes. Reading text and controls never do.

  • Experimental
On this page

Scrolling is reading, so scroll motion is rationed. Three things may move with it, each at most once per view of its kind, and all three are off at Quiet and under reduced motion.

The rules#

What may move with the scroll, and how
May moveHowNever
Panels arrivingOnce, on a timer, when the reveal runtime sees them (never scrubbed, so words never move with the scroll)Reading text, controls, plates with words
Blocks buildingScrubbed by the art slot's view timelineParallax layers; camera pans with the scroll
The one big display word flexingScrubbed, one per viewScroll-jacking; motion in the corner of the eye

Scrubbed motion uses animation-timeline: view() behind @supports: Chrome and Safari 26 scrub it; elsewhere a build plays once when its slot arrives, and a flexing word simply rests. Scroll listeners are passive and never read layout.

Panel entranceMoment 4

A [data-mk-reveal="panel"] plate enters the view, once (the pre-paint script marks it, before React).

Pebblepath

On this site#

Every page's plates (example frames, tables, code, callouts) arrive as panels when you scroll to them; the running text between them stays put. The 3D kit's pages end with the blocks building the Key block mark as you reach the end of the page.
