Stocks

The papers Overprint prints on. Bone by default, Night after dark, and four accent stocks for inserts and comic pages.

On this page

A stock is the paper under a section: its colour, its plate and the ink that prints on it. Bone is the house paper (D-C7) and Night its dark twin; White, Newsprint, Pulp and Kraft are accent stocks, light inserts inside a Bone page, each with its own ladder of inks solved by the same recipes as the main papers (D-C6).

The six stocks#

Each frame prints the stock's paper, a plate and the text roles on it, so you can see where small type is allowed.

Pulp

Pulp. The old comic's paper, at Press. Small labels on its plate only. data-mk-stock="pulp"

Kraft

Choosing a stock#

  • Bone for nearly everything. It is warm, calm and lets the inks print true.
  • Night when the reader chooses it, or for a band that should feel like a print shop after dark. Night pins its own theme, so every ink switches to its fluorescent version (D-C8).
  • White for a crisp insert: a product card, a spec sheet.
  • Newsprint and Pulp for comic pages and editorial sections; Pulp is the old comic's paper at Press (21 §1.4).
  • Kraft for packaging moments. Its paper is display only: every line of reading sits on its white plate.

In code#

A section takes its stock with Section stock="newsprint", which sets data-mk-stock on its root. Plates inside re-scope the text, rule and focus inks, so components need no stock-specific CSS. On accent stocks, coloured text uses the text ink with an underline in the line's ink, because the coloured text cuts are solved for Bone and Night only.
